We invited a couple of our friends from fatBuzz to join us for lunch earlier this month and Kirsty Hunter kindly offered to review her dining experience and share her views (and photos) with us. So in a Tam Cowan-esque style, here is what she had to say...
I was delighted to get a call Cumbernauld College to kindly invite me to join them for lunch at their Taste restaurant. As a self confessed 'grubber' and not one to pass up a free meal I kindly accepted (jumped at the chance).
Taste is a student-run restaurant that aims to give Cumbernauld College's Hospitality students first hand experience in working within a busy restaurant environment. Every Wednesday and Thursday, the Hospitality Students open up the Taste Restaurant for your culinary delight.
Let the future food stars of tomorrow serve you delicious and mouth-watering food, using the very best in local produce.
I was joined by Maria and Karyn from Cumbernauld College's Marketing Department as well as the Harrison Ford look-a-like Gordon White to tuck in to what Taste had to offer. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the restaurant was relatively busy with tables occupied by the general public and the decor I found to be fresh, bright and trendy, which is reflective of the College's image.
I started with Goujons of plaice with lime and coriander mayonnaise which was delightfully light, crisp and melted in my mouth with every bite. This was a popular choice with everyone at the table except for Maria who opted for the Minestrone soup.

For our main course we all went for the Vienne steak with Onion rings and Piquant sauce. This was reminiscent of a humble burger however, on tasting it the meat was extremely tasty and lean and the Piquant sauce was delicious with a clear taste of gherkins.

Now, I am not one for desert (I would rather 2 starters) but as it was a free meal I decided to choose the lemon soufflé and boy am I glad I did because it was de-li-ci-ous!

Most of you will be expecting me to round up my review here, but oh no our dining experience at Taste did not stop at the desert as there was a birthday boy at the table that day. The girls from the College's Marketing department craftily surprised Gordon with a birthday cake, complete with candles for him to make a wish! The cake (below) was courtesy of the highly skilled chef at Taste and I personally cannot thank him and the Marketing girls enough for making a fuss of Gordon!

It tasted as good as it looks! |
All in all my dining experience was great, the service was good and the staff were friendly and attentive. The food itself was of a very high standard that I would expect from any of Glasgow's busy restaurant's. If this is what the future holds for the Scottish Hospitality industry then I am looking forward to eating out more often in future.
I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch at Taste and the chat was just as great as the food. I highly recommend popping in for some lunch. The prices are really reasonable at £5 for 2 courses and £6 for 3, you can't really go wrong! Thank You very much for inviting me and I wish all the hospitality students the very best in the rest of their time at Cumbernauld College.
