There is always something exciting happening at our College radio station, Radioactive Scotland, whether it be Des Clark (Capital station presenter) co-hosting a show, last minute schedule changes, adverts updated, special guest appearances, interviews with up and coming bands, presenters caught in traffic, 5 - 4 -3 -2 -1 ON AIR!! Good, Slovakia is listening in again !
Our presenters and producers are always researching and discussing the latest topics on air and introducing the listeners to music from around the world.
We sent out Neil Irving, HNC Creative Industries student and radio presenter, to do a review of Anoushka Shankar’s concert in Edinburgh. Neil gained entrance to the Usher Hall where he could take amazing pictures, capturing her mermaid position pose as she played the iconic sitar - India's 'classical guitar' and almost got an interview with the star herself however, she wasn’t feeling very well.
It wasn't easy organising press and photo passes but through the commitment and dedication from the Radioactive team, we managed to obtain one on the 11th hour. Radioactive Scotland was the only radio station throughout the nation who reviewed the concert.
Anoushka, the second daughter of Ravi Shankar, is promoting her new album, Traveller which is a meeting between the Indian music she was brought up with and flamenco - two very identifiable forms of music. The two hour concert ended in the exquisite ten-minute raga, 'Bhairavi' the penultimate track on the album.
